Osborne House

Osborne House

Osborne estate was bought by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1845. On the grounds of the estate they created a private home away from court life.

This is the building that you see today when you visit the estate. It was Osborne House where Queen Victoria found solace after the death of Albert in 1861. All told, Victoria used the estate for over 50 years.

Today, many of the rooms in the house are still filled with original furniture and works of art that Victoria and Albert chose.

The planting in grounds was Albert's design. Little has been changed in the garden since it was first laid out.

The house gives its visitors a real insight into what it would have been like for the Queen to live there. She away from prying eyes here and this allowed her to entertain foreign royalty and visiting ministers.
